Oral bites in children

Foot and mouth disease is an inflammatory condition of the buccal mucosa, characterized by the appearance on the buccal mucosa of some very painful lesions, which initially are in the form of erythematous macules (red spots) that subsequently ulcerate. If no infections are added, the disease will heal spontaneously (and without treatment) in about 10 days, but it may recur.

As a treatment, local tinctures based on cortisone or other drugs with anti-inflammatory or slightly anesthetic action can be applied to relieve pain, without affecting evolution.
Unfortunately, the cause of these disorders is incompletely elucidated: they may appear as a symptom in general disorders (Behcet's disease); stress has been incriminated as a favoring factor, along with viral infections or with certain types of streptococci.

A mechanism of sensitization was also discussed, and these can be a type of allergic reaction.
Thus, not knowing the cause that determines the occurrence of these disorders, there are no specific preventive measures; rigorous hand hygiene and oral cavity, stress avoidance and a balanced lifestyle could be helpful.
