Garlic, a hope against cystic fibrosis

Garlic could prevent the onset of acute manifestations of cystic fibrosis, a dangerous hereditary infectious disease that causes severe lung infections. Researchers at the University of Nottingham are testing garlic treatment, which has already proven to be good against colds, on subjects who have inherited this condition and at any risk of getting an infection.

Before waiting for an infection, which may respond to antibiotics, but will destroy the lungs after multiple outbreaks and lead to the need for lung transplantation, the researchers are thinking of prescribing "garlic capsules" to patients. Garlic promotes the development of a natural enzyme that fights bacteria.
